So gents, I'd like to get a handle on any technical issues you might be having after our move. If you weren't aware, we're now in our new home, now hosted at Hostinger.com.  The fees back at Hostmonster just got too high for  us to afford, so, we took advantage of "new customer" pricing and flipped to new digs. So, if the lights flicker or the couch gets lumpy or the doormat goes missing, let me know. ;)

I've gotta add in a weird one I'm trying to chase down. I keep getting this error when I send a reply to a post. It's very odd, but then, so am I. Just wanted to put it in here so folks know it's being worked on.

Quote from: Robby on July 30, 2023, 07:39:05 PMJust checking if this is normal, with the old host, I clicked my link for the "New Post", or "Unread post" , however it was worded. And I went straight to the "Unread post" page. Now I have to log in, then go to the menu list, then click "unread". I'm good with that if that is normal, I'm just checking to see if I need to update my bookmark or what.

JUst got this one trying to post this comment

Please try again. If you come back to this error screen, report the error to an administrator.

But then it did post, after saying it didn't. When trying to repost it said someone else had posted (it was talking about me).

Sorry fox, looks like I'm going to keep you chasing bugs for the near future at least. BWWHAAAHAHAHAHA

That's ok.. I'm not bothered by chasing down a few issues. I've noticed some quirks myself so, hey... let's get this working right. My understanding is that the first thing the forum looks for when you click on "Unread Posts" or "Updated Posts" is to check if you're signed in. The forum seems to like to sign folks out now much more than it used to. That will likely mean that clicking on a link directly to unread posts will hit a problem, though, I'm looking into a fix for that.

I also got a notice from both @ronr and @Robby letting me know that they've observed that they have "stuck" notifications for unread posts or modified posts. Basically, if I read it correctly, there are ghost notifications to read updates in posts that have already been read. I'm trying to track this and if nothing else, remove the ghosts.

After I remembered to adjust my bookmark, and them remember that I did adjust it instead of signing in and auto clicking unread, it actually takes me where it's supposed to be. If I know it's going to sign me out every time, I'm OK with that, I just wanted to make sure that is what is going to happen.

I think I've tracked down the cause of some of our issues. It seems that the behind the scenes scheduled maintenance stuff on the forum is failing after the move. I am still digging into why it's doing that but it may be related to how the server allows cron (chronological) jobs to execute and a disjunction with the already established database of server jobs that we moved here. I'll let you know if I get it working properly.

\,,,/ Thank You so much for all you do. I do wish you had some help, (that you could trust).  But good news, I just clicked my bookmark, and it auto logged in, and came straight to the unread tab. So you are making progress, I guess God is  on you. Just take your time and rest, we can fight with things not being exactly how we want them for a little while. Just make sure the backups are working right first, if not we could be in trouble buttkick . We :bighug:  you, and don't want to see you old-man/cane   . But the forum is a little more important :yikes: :lmao: :rotfl: :emolaugh: :sadhug:

FOX, HEY FOX, I just figured out that when in the unread post loop, if you post in that thread, you manage to escape the loop. Maybe that will help you track it down.

Sweet! Hopefully that will give me some ideas.

I'm still stuck on groundhog day.  7 or so pages of unread posts every day. Then I consider myself lucky if there is actually anything new, usually just the same as the day before.  At least it does clear all when selected.

Unread topics increased to 9 pages today.  It only lists two topics per view but takes 10 times of trying to clear all topics to actually clear one page.  Toward the end of the list it shows only 1 topic per view and still requires 10 selections of clear all topics.

Today, actually last night I started checking and it did the same today, that after all posts and topics are cleared I can sign out and immediately sign back in to a VERY similar but not duplicate list of unread posts and unread topics.

It appears the time is set correctly, as I was thinking maybe it was confused of where in the world it was at.  till spinning gears here!

Robby

ron, have you tried to post in the "unread" threads? I know that will clear them off for me.
