Ron, the sodium will have something to do with it but if that were the only thing then a salty snack would have the same effect. Plus there is a lot more than just sodium in them as well.

Whatever the reason all that I know is that they work. On a really hot day when I have been sweating a lot and my guts are starting to cramp one bottle of sport drink and no more cramping problem.
