Weird symptoms

On Thursday about 1400 hours or so, I started to get hungry, doesn't always happen, but I have been trying to cut out the sweets and such so I thought I could make it for another couple hours or so until I finished work at 1630.

Around 1530 I started to get, well dizzy is not a correct term... lightheaded is better... I just didn't feel right. I thought maybe my blood sugar was plummeting and at this point I knew that something out of the vending machine wouldn't be enough.

I bought two peaches (they were just over a pound!), a bag of diced/sugared dates and a can of sweet tea. I ate the peaches, had some tea and ate almost half the bag of dates as I drove home. (my commute is almost 40 miles, one way)

I didn't start to feel better until I reheated some leftovers, diced potato hasbrowns and a pork chop... oh yeah, I had a Sammy Adams as well.

I just wonder if this was a blood sugar thing or some weird symptom or aggravated condition from my fibro?  I figure that if it was a blood sugar thing, it should have started to turn around on the way home, hence the peaches, dates and sweet tea.

I've switched to a modified paleo diet, I found it was hard to cut out the breads/sugars at lunch... it was too easy and cheap to run down the hall and support the soup kitchen... but I've cut out 98-99% of the wheat and processed foods the other times of the day... generally the only real sweets I have is a piece of hard candy in the afternoon. I almost wonder if my body got to the point of raising its big hairy middle finger at me and wanted some carbs...

Any guesses?

Well... seeing as I have no personal experience with the paleo diet, I couldn't tell you if that has anything to do with it... though my body always throws me weird situations when I change my diet too drastically...  I know that I've had hypoglycemic tendencies for a number of years and yeah, that sounds pretty much bang on.  Generally, I'll just grab a granola bar and a juice and it's all good but I guess the granola bar is kinda out for you.

Who knows brother... have you checked any of the paleo sites to see if this is a side effect?

Do you get the feeling that your stomach is trying to devour itself? Lightheaded and nauseas but still hungry at the same time? I used to get this in childhood, and have started again to get these feelings. My remedy has always been to feed it.

Olys45

Well, I was hungry but not to the point where my belly felt like it was devouring itself, I've  had that feeling and it wasn't like that... I thought it might have been the hypoglycemia thing, that is why I grabbed the peaches and the sweet tea.

Thanks for the advice and input!

I've been cutting back on the sugars in all their forms except a box of Mac and cheese almost every day. I've been having some problems of the same symptoms. What I'm having is "false crashes". My body is used to high blood sugars. Now that I've been getting them lower, my body is not in used to the new levels and is considering them too low. This causes it to essentially freak out as if I am having an actual low blood sugar episode. If I go below 100 or so, watch out. This is around where " normal" people usually are.

Try to keep some natural sugars near by maple candy or something

Maybe something that was just sugar that the body did not have to convert or digest a lot to get it into your system. That describes something that happens to me on a regular basis and I think that I too have a minor hypoglycemic thing going on. No diet here other than eating a lot less partly to loose weight, partly because of my teeth being in such bad shape well the 13 that I have left. Well back on topic, when I would get like this I would devour a Reses' cup or two or three or four. After that I would be fine.

And it was!
The honey had begun to crystalize but we used it anyway :emocrazy:
Nummy and satisfying.

The pb cups are on the way.
Let you know which works better.

If your honey crystallizes, put it in warm water or in the microwave and warm it back up to liquid heat and then let it cool back down. It will change back into liquid form and slowly start to recrystallize over time. The crystallization is due to the different forms of sugar in the honey due to it's constituent floral source.  It never harms the honey, just changes it's texture.  Honey is one of a very few edible things that will never spoil so you don't have to worry about eating bad honey... it's ALWAYS good!  Mmmmmmmmm!!

I take oral diabetes meds.

I go hypoglycemic at least once a month. I have had BSL as low as the 20s

The body normally puts out adrenaline(epinephrine) to counter Hypoglycemia. In many with fibro and CFS this does not work.

The only way i have found to counter the Hypoglycemia is eating low glycemic index foods.

Local honey is good for allergies as well I am told!

foxgrove

That's what I've been told as well... something about the best stuff to use is the stuff with all the same local pollen as you are subjected to.  I think it's something to do with small dose exposure dulling the effect of the allergen on the system.  I love my honey but I'm likely not eating it consistently enough to act as an anti-allergy med.  Oh well... poor me... I guess I'll just have to eat more of it.
